Message template for sailors

Copy and adapt this message to send to your fleet before racing. It covers everything a sailor needs to know to get their track into the debrief.

Template — Android app (recommended)

Hi all,

We're using Dinghy Coach for GPS debrief after today's racing. Here's what to do:

Install the app (if you haven't already): Search for Dinghy Coach on Google Play, or go to: https://dinghy.coach

Before you go afloat:

  1. Open the app and set your sail number in the name field at the top
  2. Hold the Solo button for 1 second to start recording when you're ready to launch

After racing:

  1. Hold End Session for 1 second to stop recording
  2. Connect to [CLUB WI-FI NAME] — the track will upload automatically

That's it! Once uploaded we'll share a link so you can replay the race.

Template — GPS watch / Vakaros (Garmin, Apple Watch, etc.)

Hi all,

We're doing a GPS debrief after today's racing. If you have a GPS watch or instrument, here's how to get your track in:

  1. Make sure your watch is recording a GPS activity during the race (start it before the start sequence)
  2. After racing, export your track as a GPX or FIT file from your watch's app (Garmin Connect, etc.)
  3. Upload it at: https://app.dinghy.coach/import

Vakaros users: export as CSV or VKX from the Vakaros app and upload the same way.

We'll share a replay link once we have tracks in. If you're not sure how to export from your device, see the help at https://dinghy.coach/help or ask [YOUR NAME].

Tips for adapting the template

  • Replace [CLUB WI-FI NAME] with your actual network name (and password if it's not already saved on sailors' phones).
  • Replace [YOUR NAME] with whoever sailors should ask for help on the day.
  • If your sailors are a mix of Android app users and GPS watch users, send both sections together.
  • For junior fleets where parents are handling the phones, the Android template works as-is — parents just need to install the app on the sailor's phone and set the sail number.
