Missing or unmatched tracks
After racing it's common to find that a track is missing entirely, or that a track is in the library but showing the wrong boat name. Here's how to diagnose and fix both problems.
A track is missing entirely
Work through these checks in order:
1. Did the sailor start recording? This is the most common cause. Ask the sailor to check their Sessions screen (Android app) or their watch app. If there's no activity recorded, the session simply wasn't started.
2. Has the track uploaded yet? Open the Sessions screen on the sailor's Android app. The track should show Synced. If it shows Pending or Uploading, the device hasn't had enough time on a suitable connection. Ask the sailor to connect to Wi-Fi or ensure mobile data is on.
If it shows Failed, tap the track row to retry the upload manually.
3. Is the device filtering hiding it? In the track library at app.dinghy.coach/open, check that the date filter includes today and that no device-code filter is active. Clear all filters and search again.
4. Was the session shorter than 5 minutes? Sessions under 5 minutes don't auto-upload from the Android app. The sailor needs to manually upload from the Sessions screen. Ask them to tap the session and choose Upload.
5. Did the GPS actually acquire a fix? If the track uploaded but shows no movement or a single point, the GPS didn't acquire satellites before recording stopped. See Poor GPS data in Troubleshooting.
A track is in the library but has the wrong name
This means the sailor didn't set their name before recording, or set it incorrectly.
Fix it with admin rename:
- Go to app.dinghy.coach/admin/tracks.
- Find the track (filter by date and device code if needed).
- Click the boat name in the table — it becomes an editable field.
- Type the correct name and press Enter.
The rename updates both the display label in the library and the embedded name in the stored track file.
A track is in the library but doesn't match the right race
GPS tracks cover the whole time the device was recording. If a sailor started their Garmin watch in the morning and didn't stop it until after racing, the track will include travel to the club, waiting, and the race together.
The debrief will still work — use the Segments or scrubber to find the race portion. If the track is very long (multi-hour), the playback may be easier to navigate at higher speed.
Two tracks for the same sailor
This happens when a sailor stopped and restarted recording, or uploaded the same session twice. In the debrief, load both tracks and use the Segments tab or scrubber to identify which is the race portion. Delete the unwanted one from the admin tracks page if needed.
The track looks wrong (GPS jumps, straight lines)
