Race support quick start
This is a condensed checklist for race officers and club coaches who want to get Dinghy Coach working at their club as quickly as possible.
Before race day
- Share the Dinghy Coach app with sailors and ask them to install it before the event
- Send the sailor message template so they know what to do with their tracks
- Confirm the club Wi-Fi name and password — sailors will need it to upload after racing
- Check that tracks from last week's test upload appear at app.dinghy.coach/open
Race day — before sailing
- Remind sailors to set their sail number in the app (Start screen → name field)
- Ask sailors using GPS watches to start recording at the same time as they would for any race (before the start sequence, while they're afloat)
- Note the approximate wind direction so you can enter it later (or record it on the Marks screen in the coaching app if you're using that)
After racing — at the club
- Ask sailors to connect to club Wi-Fi — Android app tracks will upload automatically
- For sailors with Garmin/Apple Watch/Vakaros: direct them to app.dinghy.coach/import on the club computer or their own phone
- Wait a few minutes for uploads to complete, then go to app.dinghy.coach/open → Tracks tab
Running the debrief
- Filter tracks by today's date and select all race boats
- Tap Open selected
- In the Course tab, set wind direction and place marks
- Tap Save → Share → copy link
- Send the link to your fleet
Ongoing
- Saved sessions stay in the library. Sailors can return to the link at any time.
- If a track is missing, see Missing or unmatched tracks.
- For coached training sessions (not just races), see Run a coached session.
