Start/stop sailors remotely

Once sailors are connected to your coaching session, you can start and stop their recording from your phone — no sailor needs to touch their screen.

Starting all sailors simultaneously

On the Coaching screen, tap Start Recording. A start command is sent to every sailor in the roster. Their phones begin recording GPS immediately. You'll see the status update on each sailor's tile.

The start command is acknowledged by each sailor's device. If a sailor is momentarily out of range, their phone will receive the command automatically when they reconnect (within a short window).

Countdown timer sequences

For race starts, use the built-in countdown timer to synchronise timing across all sailors.

To start a countdown:

1. On the Coaching screen, long-press the GROUP tile or tap the timer icon in the top bar.
2. Choose a sequence length: 5 minutes, 3 minutes, or 2 minutes.
3. Tap Start sequence.

Each sailor's phone shows a large countdown timer on their HUD screen, with audio beeps at key intervals (minute marks, 30 seconds, 20 seconds, and the final 10-second countdown to the gun). The timer is synchronised across all devices using the coach phone's clock.

If a sailor reconnects during an active sequence, they receive the sequence state and sync to the current countdown automatically — typically within 2 seconds of reconnecting.

To abort a sequence: tap Abort on the Coaching screen. All sailors receive the abort signal and their timers clear.

Stopping all sailors simultaneously

Tap End Session on the Coaching screen. The app:

1. Sends a stop command to all connected sailors.
2. Waits for each sailor to confirm they've received the stop (up to 15 seconds).
3. Shows a count of confirmed stops. A Force stop button is available if a sailor is out of range and can't confirm in time.

Sailors don't need to touch their phone to stop. Their recording ends automatically when they receive the stop command.

What happens if a sailor drops out mid-session?

If a sailor goes out of Wi-Fi range, their phone continues recording locally. Their tile on the coaching screen shows a red dot and "reconnecting". When they return to range, they reconnect automatically and you can see their live speed again.

The stop command will be delivered when they reconnect. If the session has already ended, their phone will stop recording automatically when they next connect to any internet.

Roster lock

After your session starts, you may not want new sailors joining mid-session. The coach screen has a roster lock toggle (padlock icon on the GROUP tile):

• Unlocked (green padlock) — new sailors can join
• Locked (red padlock) — new connection attempts are rejected

The roster locks automatically 2 minutes after the first sailor connects, unless you unlock it manually. You can toggle it at any time.
