Understanding the replay
The debrief view shows your GPS track — and any other boats loaded — playing back on a chart. Here's what everything means and how to get the most out of it.
The chart
Your boat is shown as a coloured teardrop marker pointing in your direction of travel. A coloured trail behind it shows where you've been. Each boat in the session gets its own colour.
The chart can be panned (drag) and zoomed (pinch or scroll wheel). Tap Fit in the top bar to zoom back to fit all boats on screen.
You can toggle a map background on and off using the switch in the Course tab sidebar. When on, a topographic chart appears behind the track — useful for identifying the race area and marks.
Playback controls
At the bottom of the screen:
- Play / Pause — starts and stops the replay
- Scrubber — a timeline bar showing the full session length; drag the handle to jump to any point
- Speed selector — tap to cycle through 1×, 2×, 4×, and 8× speeds
The current time is shown next to the scrubber. If multiple boats are loaded, the timeline covers the full span from the earliest to the latest track.
The sidebar tabs
Boats tab
Shows all loaded boats. From here you can:
- See each boat's name and colour
- Manage which boats are included in the session (add or remove)
- Discover nearby boats — other tracks from the same venue and time window that aren't in the session yet, with an option to add them
Stats tab
Powered by your tracks and (when set) the wind direction. Key sections:
Manoeuvres — tacks and gybes are detected automatically. For each boat you'll see:
- Total tack count and average tack loss (metres of VMG lost per tack)
- Total gybe count and average gybe loss
- Best and worst individual tack/gybe loss
Boat comparison — speed, VMG, and other metrics compared side by side for all loaded boats.
Course analytics — when wind and marks are set, each leg is analysed individually: VMC (speed made good on the course bearing), time on each tack, and rounding performance.
Segments tab
Lets you define a time window to compare boats over a specific part of the race — a beat, a run, or a close crossing. Tap Add segment, drag the handles to set the start and end time, and the tab shows who was faster over that period.
Course tab
Set up the racing environment:
- Wind direction — tap the compass icon and set the wind angle. This is needed for all VMG/VMC analysis and tack/gybe detection.
- Marks — place buoys at the windward, leeward, and gate positions by tapping the chart.
- Start / finish lines — define the line between the committee boat and pin end.
- Map background — toggle the chart underlay on or off.
Notes tab
If a coached session included voice notes (recorded by the coach via the Android app and transcribed automatically), they appear here. Notes are private by default; the coach can make individual notes public so sailors can see them when viewing a shared session link.
Tips for getting the most out of replay
- Set wind direction first before diving into stats — almost all the useful analysis depends on it.
- Load two or more boats and use the Stats tab to compare tack loss — this is often the most eye-opening part of a debrief.
- Use segments to isolate a specific beat where you noticed a difference on the water.
- On a phone, the sidebar is hidden by default. Tap the sidebar handle on the right edge to reveal it. On a tablet, it opens automatically.
